The Interministerial PPP Commission of the government of Greece has approved a PPP project to deploy ultrafast broadband across the country.
The selected private partner will develop a fiber optic broadband network with an internet speed of at least 100 Mbps (upgradable to 1 Gbps), completing construction within three years. The network will benefit 2.4 million citizens and will be operated by the private partner for a further seventeen years.
The total investment of the project is estimated up to EUR700 million (US$797.3 million), to be financed by a mix of EU grants and private resources.
The government is now preparing to select advisors to assist structuring and procurement.
