The Romanian government is taking necessary steps to fund the Comarnic - Brasov motorway with money from the state budget. The project was first tendered upon PPP procurement mode and only one bid was received for the project. Since the past year project was unable to make any real progress. Thus, the president and transport minister has stated to move the project from PPP procurement. The president of Romania has asked the Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) to move this project to national importance, which will speed up the works.
The project involves the construction of a roughly 120km section of the planned A3 motorway, which will link Romania's capital Bucharest to the Transylvania and north-west regions of the country. The segment includes 14 viaducts and 33 bridges with a total length of approximately 3km, and a 2.6km tunnel.
In order to speed the works up plans to have the Comarnic - Brasov motorway built under a public-private partnership will be dropped and the project will be declared of national importance at the next CSAT meeting. The transport ministry and government is committed to complete the project as soon as possible even with government funding.
