The Government of the State of São Paulo, through the Secretariat of Investment Partnerships (SPI), signed the contract with the Consortium C2 Rail Mobility (TIC Trens) for the Intercidades Eixo Norte Train, which will connect the city of São Paulo to Campinas.
The plan will also enable the Intermetropolitan Train (TIM) service between Campinas and Jundiaí and includes the concession of Line 7-Rubi from CPTM (Companhia Paulista de Trens Metropolitanos). During the preliminary phase, the concessionaire will present financing, expropriation, and resettlement plans and prepare for the start of the operational transition. Pre-construction of the three TIC Eixo Norte projects is scheduled for June 2026, with the effective start of works for all project lines set for two years after the concession contract is signed. A pre-operational transition period will see the start of work in 2026, the intermetropolitan train service running by 2029, and the express train with a single stop in Jundiaí by 2031. The anticipated deadline for completing the works on Line 7 and the TIM is three years, with a scheduled completion date of June 2029. The TIC works are expected to take five years, with operations starting in the second half of 2032. Throughout 2025, the assisted operation stage will occur on Line 7-Rubi of the metro, with CPTM staff supporting the transition of services to the concessionaire. Commercial operations on Line 7-Rubi will begin in 2026, marking the start of the 30-year concession period.
The project aims to improve and expand mobility between the metropolitan regions of São Paulo, Jundiaí, and Campinas, covering a route of approximately 100 km. It will offer an express service between Barra Funda Station and Campinas, with a stop in Jundiaí, transporting 672,000 passengers daily. The journey will take 64 minutes, with 15 trains providing the service. TIM will operate with seven trains over a 44-km route, with a travel time of 33 minutes. Line 7-Rubi will operate between Barra Funda and Jundiaí stations, covering 57 km with 17 stations and a 61-minute journey. Additionally, 30 trains currently running this route will be transferred to the future concessionaire.
