The government of Piauí attented an online event, organized by ABDIB (Associação Brasileira da Infraestrutura e Indústrias de Base), to present the technical, economic and financial feasibility studies for the international aiport project in Parnaiba.
The project involves the redevelopment, operation and maintenance of an airport, which will be tendered at the end of May 2021. The estimated investment value for the project is BRL112 million (US$21.18 million). The sponsored concession will be given for a period of 32 years.
In recent years, Parnaiba airport has handled about 8,000 passengers per year. The city is a tourist destination, especially popular for sports tourism. In addition, the airport has the potential to be a cargo distribution center, due to its central location compared to other major cities in northeastern Brazil.
