The City Government of Marseille has announced that the tender for the development and operation of the Chanot conference and exhibition centre, launched in July 2018, has not resulted in an award. The authority has not disclosed whether no tenders or requests to participate were received or all were rejected.
The 30-year concession was valued at EUR1.2 billion (USD1.38 billion). The selected concessionaire would have designed, constructed and financed new equipment and facilities of the Chanot centre so that it included approximately 40,000m2 of exhibition space and potentially also an event hall with around 6,000 seats. This would involve the demolition of many of the centre's existing structures, which were constructed in the 1950s and 1960s.
The government's future plans for the exhibition centre are unknown.
