The Chief Minister of Karnataka, a state in south-west India, has announced plans to develop an elevated motorway corridor in Bengaluru, the state capital, through a public-private partnership (PPP).
A tender for the first phase of the corridor will launched in January 2019. It is planned to have a total length of 102.04km and cost INR254,950 million (US$3.63 billion). The project will require 92 acres of land, with the motorway to have six lanes. The government intends to commence operations in 2021.
The aims of the project are to decongest the city roads, provide effective modes of transportation, minimize maintenance cost of vehicles and ensure road safety along with limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
This was announced in the Chief Minister's budget speech. INR10 billion (US$142.3 million) has been allocated to the project for the upcoming year.
