The transport ministry in Greece announced that they will name the financial advisor in a short period to go ahead with the concession of 23 regional airports. The government is considering companies Grant Thornton, Lamda Group, and Process Consulting to become a financial advisor for the project. The financial advisor will assist the ministry in the design and implementation of the concession procedure for the project.
The project includes upgrade and modernization of the follwoing 23 small regional airports around Greece: airports of Alexandroupolis, Araxos, Astypalea, Chios, Ikaria, Ioannina, Kalamata, Kalymnos, Karpathos, Kasos, Kastelorizo, Kastoria, Kozani, Kythira, Leros, Lemnos, Milos, Nea Anchialos, Naxos, Paros, Sitia, Skyros, and Syros. The government of Greece promotes public-private partnerships (PPP) towards exploitation of the airports and sub-concession deals for separate commercial activities. The ownership of the aiports will remain public.
While the government decides on the financial advisor, the airport operator company Fraport Greece has expressed interest in operating the abovementioned airports. Fraport Greece currently operates 14 airports in Greece.
