The Ministry of Regional Development in Brazil has announced a new MDR fund to structure projects, which will be offered to the private sector. The initial investment amount for the fund is BRL750 million (US$143.4 million). The fund is intended to finance the production of studies and infrastructure projects procured under public-private partnership (PPP). The investment will be available from small and medium-sized to large enterprises depending on the needs of the local government.
MDR fund intends to invest BRL700 million (US$133.9 million) in wastewater and sewage, BRL200 million (US$38.2 million) in urban mobility, BRL50 million (US$9.56 million) in public lighting, BRL50 million (US$9.56 million) in solid waste, and BRL100 million (US$19.13 million) in water infrastructure. The ministry plans to invest in a BRL450 million (US$86.08 million) solid waste project located in Rio de Janeiro.
