A consortium of Sichuan Road Bridge (Group) Corporation of China, Shamim Enterprise and UDC Construction of Bangladesh emerged as winners for the development of Dhaka Bypass road project in Bangladesh. The project will be implemented through public-private partnership (PPP) investment model for a total project cost of Tk30.39 billion (US$363.5 million).
The company's offer is Tk2.24 billion (US$26.8 million) higher than the project's estimated cost based on the conducted feasibility study of the PPP Authority in Bangladesh in 2015. However, the selected bidder is the lowest out of the four proposals submitted.
The Roads and Highways Department (RHD) has awarded a 25-year concession to the winning bidder, which includes three years for construction. The contract will commence after the end of the nine-month period in which the consortium must achieve financial close. 90% of the funds will be provided by China through the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China while the remaining 10% will come from a local bank.
The upgrading project consist of approximately 50 Kilometers long connecting Joydevpur-Tangail National Highway (N-4) in the north, Dhaka-Chittagong National Highway (N-1), Dhaka-Sylhet National Highway (N-2), Dhaka-Mymensingh National Highway (N-3) alongside some regional highways and district roads.
