Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in the USA has announced plans to use private funding for the development of new roads along the top end of I-285.
GDOT's new plan involves the development of two-lane tollways around Top End I-285 stretching from near I-20 West to I-20 East. The tollway will be placed in new lanes in the existing highway corridor with separate express lanes. The proposed works on I-285 will start near the I-20 interchanges on the east and west sides. The new express lanes will be tolled in each direction of I-285 starting near I-20 and stretching from I-20 on the west side and I-20 on the east side.
The concession period for the project is also been extended from 35 years to 50 years, which will allow the private partner to recover the financing.
