The General Directorate of Concessions has carried out a series of citizen participation to clarify doubts about the Desalination Plant project for the Coquimbo Region that will provide drinking water to the inhabitants of the conurbation of La Serena and Coquimbo.
The project will benefit 460,000 people in the La Serena and Coquimbo conurbation by providing a new source of drinking water, in the context of the water crisis affecting the region. The scope of work involves the construction and operation of this seawater desalination plant and its complementary works, which will have a total capacity of 1,200 l/s, with an initial production of 800 l/s, guaranteeing a stable supply of drinking water for the Coquimbo-La Serena conurbation.
The project involves an investment of USD 350 million and is expected to receive bids during 2025, begin construction in 2026, and be operational in 2029.
