GEK TERNA S.A. has signed, as the sole shareholder of the company “NEA ATTIKI ODOS SINGLE MEMBER S.A.”, the concession
agreement with a total value of EUR 3.270 billion (US$ 3.5 billion) for the financing, operation, maintenance, and exploitation of Attiki Odos Motorway for 25 years, with contracting parties being the Greek State and the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF S.A.).
Attiki Odos was built in the 1990s and stretches 70 km, functioning as the ring road for the greater Athens metropolitan area and serving as the main artery of the road network in the Attica region, home to over 5 million residents. It serves as a vital link for the PATHE Motorway (Patras-Athens-Thessaloniki-Evzoni) and connects the Athens-Lamia National Road with the Athens-Corinth National Road, allowing traffic to bypass central Athens. Additionally, it provides a roadway connection between Athens International Airport and the city center.
The project's funding is anticipated to come from a mix of equity from GEK TERNA Group and bank loans. Mediobanca S.p.A. served as the exclusive financial advisor for GEK TERNA S.A. during the transaction, with financial backing provided by Greek banks, including Piraeus Bank, National Bank of Greece, Eurobank, and Alpha Bank. The project is currently operational, and major maintenance will be finalized by the time it is transferred to GEK TERNA.
