Gauteng has announced that plans are at an advanced stage to acquire 12 new trains for the Gautrain system. This is due to passenger demand that is exceeding realistic expectations, particularly during peak hours

▶The PPP process started in April 1999, when the Eastern Cape Department of Health (ECDoH) invited private health sector providers to submit proposals for a partnership with the department to refurbish and upgrade the buildings and equipment
▶The ECDoH received four proposals, and in June 2000, the evaluation committee identified and recommended Afrox as the only compliant and thus preferred bidder
▶In November 2001 a transaction advisor team was appointed and tasked with taking the project through all the treasury approval steps to financial closure
