The State of Israel has received five qualifications for the Western Galilee desalination project. The project involves finance, design, construction, operation, maintenance (for a period of about 25 years), and transfer of a sea-water desalination facility north of Acre city in the region of the Western Galilee. The plant's output capacity to produce drinking water will be at least 100 million cubic meters per year. The plant will use reverse osmosis technology to desalinate water from the Mediterranean Sea.
