The Government of Finland through Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency − formerly the Finnish Transport Agency has delayed the launching of the tender for the development of the Hailuoto causeway project.
The 8-km causeway is set to represent a total investment of about EUR74 million (US$82.63 million) according to the North Ostrobothnia Centre for Economic Development, Transport and the Environment. The project would connect the small town of Huikku on Hailuoto Island in the Gulf of Bothnia with Oulunsalo on the mainland, around 540km north of Helsinki. It will include two bridges, 740m, and 770m in length, as well as an artificial island.
In March 2019, the government has appointed financial and legal advisers that will assist in the planning and carrying out of the tendering process in selecting a service provider for the PPP project and in the related negotiations with tendering consortiums.
