Financial Closure for Magdalena Trunks 1 and 2 Road Corridor Projects

The National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) has announced the financial closure of the Magdalena Trunks 1 and 2 road corridor projects in Colombia.

The Magdalena Trunks 1 and 2 projects, part of the Fifth Generation initiative, play a crucial role in linking the country's interior with the Caribbean Coast, alongside the Ruta del Sol 3 project.

  • The Troncal del Magdalena 1 Puerto Salgar – Barrancabermeja corridor spans 260 km and received an investment of COP 4.91 billion (US$ 1.2 million) by December 2023. This project secured a US$2.4 billion agreement supported by eight financial entities: Bancolombia, IDB, JP Morgan, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation SMBC, MUFG Americas, Financiera de Desarrollo Nacional FDN, and the Andean Corporation.
  • The Troncal del Magdalena 2 Sabana de Torres-Curumaní corridor project spans 268 km and is set to receive an investment of COP 4.75 billion (US$ 1.25 million) by December 2023. This project secured financing of US$2 billion. The loan was structured by Banco de Crédito del Perú (BCP), with participation from 8 entities: Bancolombia, IFC, Inter-American Investment Corporation (IDB Invest), Corporación Andina de Fomento CAF, JP Morgan, Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation SMBC, MUFG Americas, and the National Development Finance Company FDN.
