The Matiari-Lahore (Pakistan) transmission line project achieved its financial close on 28th February 2019. This project falls under the portfolio of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The major sponsor for the project is the China Electric Power Equipment and Technology, which is a subsidiary of State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). The total project investment is estimated at US$ 1.65 billion.
The 878 km transmission line is designed to have bi-pole HVDC technology, having two converter stations, one each at Matiari and Lahore, three repeater stations and two grounding electrode stations. The transmission line will be operated under the Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) model. The concession period is 25 years.
Commercial operation of the line is expected to begin in March 2021.
