The Government of Pernambuco in Brazil and the technical base of the Federal Government have decided to privatize the metro-railway system in the Recife Metropolitan Region also known as Metrô do Recife.
A total of BRL3.8 billion (US$740.35 million) investment is required for the project, out of which BRL3.1 billion (US$603.9 million) will be provided by the Federal Government whereas BRL700 million (US$136.38 million) will be mobilized by the Government of Pernambuco.
The selected private partner will be responsible for the management and operation of the project for the concession period of 30 years. The state and public concession process is expected to begin this May.
