State-owned Angola Press Agency (Angop) said that construction has commenced on the modernization and expansion of the multi-purpose terminal at the Port of Luanda in Angola.
Key components of the project encompass the construction of a two-story administration and operations building, two access roads for loading and unloading, and customs service facilities. Moreover, the terminal's modernization initiative includes the digitization of operational processes, leading to a 50% reduction in the time required for goods processing. The completion of the project, costing US$210 million, is slated within 18 months. Consequently, the terminal's annual container handling capacity will surge from 430,000 TEUs to 700,000 TEUs.
DP World entered into a 20-year concession agreement in January 2021 to manage the multi-purpose terminal. As part of this commitment, they will invest US$190 million over the period to enhance throughput and establish an advanced port management system.
