The European Investment Bank (EIB) has provided EUR150 Million (US$164 million) for the Western Galilee water desalination project in Israel.
Israel's 7th desalination facility, the new Western Galilee plant, is set to be named Birkat Miriam. The EIB will fund 35% of the project, providing Israel with EUR150 million (US$164 million) out of the total EUR425 million (US$464 million). IDE, in collaboration with the Finance and Energy ministries and the Israel Water Authority, will construct the plant through a Public Private Partnership. IDE will oversee the planning, financing, and operation of the project for 25 years following its completion. Once operational, the Western Galilee plant is expected to significantly contribute to Israel's water production, increasing desalinated water output to nearly 900 million m3/year. This will account for approximately 85%-90% of both household and industrial water consumption in the country.
IDE Technologies has announced that it was awarded the bid to finance, design and construct of Desalination plant public-private partnership (PPP) project in Western Galilee, Israel.
