The Government of Ethiopia has suspended the partial privatization of Ethio Telecom.
The reason for the suspension of privatization are the macroeconomic changes globally and in the country. In a case of a positive change in the macroeconomic environment and financial performance of Ethio Telecom will improve the privatization process. The Ethiopian government plans to finalize the privatization by contacting the parties concerned shortly.
As part of the economic reform, the Government of Ethiopia announced the privatization of state-owned enterprises. The aim of privatization is to improve the efficiency of both private and state-owned enterprises in the Ethiopian economy. The Government of Ethiopia has proposed the partial privatization of Ethio Telecom through the sale of 40% of the share capital of the Company.
