The contract for the Escuintla - Puerto Quetzal highway project has been awarded to Autopistas de Guatemala consortium, which is made up of the Mexican company Marhnos and the Guatemalan firm Grupo Precon.
The scope of the contract involves rehabilitation, management, operation, maintenance and additional works. The work requires an investment of U$65 million, and will be financed through toll collection.
The consortium offered an additional 36.13% as a fee, in addition to 5%, from day 1 of year 9 of the exploitation phase, until the expiration of the contract. The award is yet to be approved by the National Council of Partnerships for the Development of Economic Infrastructure (Conadie).
