EOIs sought for US$697 million Magadalena river waterway PPP

On February 11th, 2013, the Colombian public corporation Corgmagdalena published the pre-qualification documents for the Public Private Partnership contract "Recovery of Magdalena River's Navigability".

Cormagdalena will grant the PPP contract through the competitive dialogue method. The competitive dialogue stage will start once the there is a shortlist of proposers.

Magdalena River

The Magdalena River PPP consists of redirecting water flow, dredging and other works in the stretch between Puerto Salgar/La Dorada and the mouth of the river in Bocas de Ceniza, Barranquilla (256 Km), for up to ten years. The model of the contract would be a public-private partnership for the design, construction, operation, maintenance and finance of the project, according to documents published.

The rehabilitation of Magdalena river's navigability was one of the promises made by President Juan Manuel Santos, and is part of the government's efforts to increase the country's connectivity.

The Colombian government will contribute US$386 million for the project. Corgmagdalena's advisor is local investment bank Bonus.

After a postponement of the tender, interested parties will have until April 8 to submit their expressions of interest, while the evaluation of these expressions will be completed on May 6.
