The Private Investment Promotion Agency (PROINVERSIÓN) has issued an Expression of Interest (EOI) for the modernization project of the Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway (Macho Train) in Peru.
The Huancayo-Huancavelica Railway, spanning 128.7 km, features 7 stations, 20 stops, 15 bridges, and 38 tunnels that will undergo modernization. Through this project, the upgraded Macho Train will boast revitalized infrastructure, new rolling stock, and an advanced signaling and control system, ensuring a secure, efficient, and comfortable transport system with 7 daily runs in both directions. Additionally, the project includes the construction of a new maintenance workshop, drainage system, slope protection, stabilization measures, and a comprehensive renewal of the railway superstructure.
The PPP concession model enables the government to construct, finance, maintain, and upgrade infrastructure for a specified duration, while the private sector contributes expertise, technology, and equipment. In railway ventures, such concessions enhance connectivity, reduce travel durations, lower accident rates, and bolster safety. Interested bidders for the public tender must submit their prequalification documents by October 31, 2023, with the project set to be awarded in December 2023.
