Australian Capital Territory government has launched Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation (EPBC) preliminary documentation for stage 2A of Canberra Light Rail project. The project involves extension of the existing light rail network with a 1.7-kilometer track with stops at Edinburgh Avenue on London Circuit, City South, and Commonwealth Park.
The document enlists measures to be taken for the survival of critically endangered Golden Sun Moth from light rail. The line will have wire-free and grassed tracks for the lowest environmental impact. The construction of the stage 2A is expected to begin soon. The planning of extension stage 2B is also under progress and likely to be announced within 18 months.
