The Philippines’ Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has signed a US$ 59 million contract for the engineering design of the Bataan–Cavite Interlink Bridge Project on Manila Bay, which is being developed with funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). The consultant services will be provided by US-based T.Y. Lin International and the Republic of Korea’s Pyunghwa Engineering Consultants Ltd., working in tandem with Geneva-based Renardet S.A. and the Philippines’ DCCD Engineering Corporation.
The scope of works involves construction of 32.15 kilometers four-lane (2 lanes in each direction) Interlink bridge which connects the provinces of Bataan and Cavite, which are located northwest and southwest of the capital Manila. The project is composed of various sections: Package 1 – Bataan Land Viaduct (5.04 km), Package 2 – Northern Marine Viaduct (8.0 km), Package 3 – Southern Marine Viaduct (12.6 km), Package 4 – Approach Viaducts to Northern and Southern Navigation Channel Bridges (2.6 km), Package 5 – Navigation Channel Bridges (2.6 km), Package 6 – Cavite Land Viaduct (1.31 km), and Package 7 – Ancillary Buildings.
The project was approved in January 2020 by the National Economic Development Authority Board, which reviews all proposals for major capital projects and programs of the government. In December 2019, ADB approved a US$ 200 million loan as additional financing for the Infrastructure Preparation and Innovation Facility, which supported the government’s feasibility study and engineering design for the bridge project. The estimated investment value of the project is PHP 175.7 billion (US$ 3.6 billion).
