Webuild and NGE have completed the excavation work on Lot 2 of Line 16 of France's Grand Paris Express network.

The newly established Line 16 contributes to a 200-km metro network aimed at seamlessly integrating suburban areas with the city center, enhancing large urban spaces. Lot 2 has achieved 97% progress, anticipating completion by the coming autumn. Notably, the project showcases innovative practices such as utilizing precast fiber-reinforced concrete segments for tunnel lining, resulting in a 50% reduction in steel consumption while simultaneously improving tunnel strength. In addition to excavating 11 km of tunnels, Lot 2 encompasses the construction of four stations, one of which has been finished, and the other three are in the process of completion.

Upon its completion, Lot 2, stretching from Aulnay-sous-Bois to Chelles, is anticipated to alleviate the Paris streets by diverting 154,000 vehicles daily, consequently preventing the emission of up to 52,000 tons of CO2 annually. Line 16 is designed to cater to the Seine-Saint-Denis and Seine-et-Marne departments, accommodating around 200,000 passengers daily and notably enhancing connectivity between the city center and the suburbs.
