Digital Nasional Bhd (DNB), an SPV owned by the Ministry of Finance in Malaysia, has invited eight companies to develop a 5G telecommunication and broadband network across the country. The selected company will be responsible for designing as well as construction works for the project. In the first phase, the 5G network will be developed in Putrajaya, Cyberjaya, and some parts of Kuala Lumpur. After which the network will further expand to 17 major cities located in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

The 5G network will provide end-to-end solutions to the consumers as well as retail services. This 5G network is expected to fast-track the digitalization process in Malaysia. The government will be investing MYR 15 billion (US$ 3.6 billion) throughout the next 10 years into the project. DNB will conduct an open tender process to provide equal access. The initial network is expected to be operational by 2023.
