The European Investment Bank (EIB) has proposed EUR150 million (US$170 million) to finance a sustainable transport plan for Nairobi.
The program involves the development and construction of Line 3, one of the proposed five Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) transport corridors across the city center of Nairobi from East to West, connecting hospitals, Dandora train station and key market areas. The bus line will interface with many of the other BRT lines.
The 12 km BRT project will involve the detailed design and construction of the bus corridor, as well as the construction of a bus depot, procurement and acquisition of zero-emission electric buses, construction of bus stops and associated monitoring, ticketing and management facilities. The estimated total cost of the project is EUR299 million (US$339 million).
