Enel Generación Chile, the project owner of the Chile-Argentina interconnection concession, has published an environmental impact assessment (EIA) for the project.
Under the concession, 26.7 kilometers of extension line will be constructed from the new Los Cóndores Electrical Substation (SE) to the Argentinian border. The purpose of the project is to facilitate the import and export of electricity between both countries.
The scope of works involves the construction of a 220/500 kV GIS electrical substation at Nueva SE Los Cóndores and a 26.7 km long 500 kV single-circuit electric power transmission line with 72 supporting structures in a total area of 239.76 hectares. Almost 91% of the project corresponds to the right of way without any infrastructure erection. The construction works for the project are scheduled to begin on October 1, 2022.
