Suez Canal Authority in Egypt has signed a bilateral agreement with A.P. Moller - Maersk (Maersk) for the development of the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) at a site in Suez East Port. The terminal will help transform Suez East Port into a global hub for container handling in the eastern and southern Mediterranean region.
Under the concession, Maersk will develop a 1 km long container quay adjacent to the existing 500 m quay. The company will also increase the number of operating cranes to 30 which will be powered with electricity instead of diesel. Maersk is also considering a plan to develop SCCT into a smart terminal featuring the latest systems and advanced technology for container handling.
