Ecorodovias, the concessionaire responsible for the BR-101 concession, has requested to return the highway back to National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) in Brazil.
The concession involves duplication works on a 475.9 km long highway connecting BA-698 access to Mucuri, Bahia.
Awarded in 2013, Ecorodovias won the contract with a concession period of 25 years. The company has completed duplication works on 47.5 km of highway to date. The concessionaire submitted the formal declaration to leave the contract for the highway stating difficulties in obtaining environmental licenses, financing and delays in securing permissions. The document requests ANTT to terminate the contract and enter into an addendum with a new contract until a new concessionaire is chosen.
