Economic offer presented for Second Concession of US$1.27 billion Road Project in Chile

Vías Chile Company has presented the best economic offer of UF 47.7 million (US$ 51,122.8) for the Second Concession of Route 5 Section Santiago - Los Vilos in Chile.

The project having an investment value of US$1.275 billion involves a section of Route 5 North that begins at 10.8 km corresponds to the northern exit of Santiago, in the commune of Quilicura, and ends in the commune of Los Vilos (229.1 km). The El Melón tunnel is also incorporated into this route. The main milestones of this project include 10.7 km of expansion from three to four lanes in each direction, between the Buenaventura interchange and the Batuco-Liray interchange, and 102 km of expansion from two to three lanes in each direction, from Batuco-Liray to the southern interchange of the El Melón Tunnel, which also includes the La Calavera Tunnel.

85 km of route adjustments are planned to increase the speed to 100 and 120 km/h. Additionally, existing service roads with a granular surface will be upgraded to asphalt, and 85 km of new service roads will be constructed, along with 15 new interchanges. These improvements will enhance connectivity for the communities surrounding Route 5. The project also includes upgrading existing interchanges, with a focus on enhancing the La Montaña interchange at the northern exit of Santiago.

The project will also feature the construction of 19 new bridges, 31 new pedestrian walkways, and the replacement of 38 existing walkways to meet universal accessibility standards, along with the addition of bus stops and pedestrian circuits. Additionally, 10 new sales areas for local products from regions along the route will be established, along with two interprovincial bus stops at the northern exit of Santiago, similar to the one in the Colón sector south of Santiago. It is expected to begin construction in Q4 of 2028 with all works to be completed by the end of 2031.
