The Department of Transportation (DOTr) in the Philippines has announced to begin the bidding process to develop a multi-river ferry system in 2025.
This project aims to create a high-capacity, high-frequency, low-carbon ferry system for Manila Bay, Pasig River, Marikina River, and Laguna de Bay. The DOTr and PPP Center are currently studying demand and costs, including passenger surveys, the feasibility of electric ferries and their energy sources, and integrating the ferry system with road-based transportation like modern public utility vehicles (PUVs) and buses. Additionally, it aims to enhance the Pasig River and provide an alternative east-west transportation corridor in Metro Manila.
