Dorset Council launches Building Better Lives transformation programme

Dorset Council, alongside NHS Dorset CCG and NHS Dorset Healthcare in the UK, are working together under the Building Better Lives transformation programme. The authority is seeking private partner to deliver several transformation projects in key locations across Dorset under the program.

 Building Better Lives transformation programme will deliver:

  • economic benefits and regeneration for key areas of Dorset,
  • improved health and well-being for people of all ages, through better accommodation and different ways of getting help and support,
  • better use of limited funds and existing land and buildings that we own to maximize the quality of people’s lives and experiences to attract investment into Dorset’s local economy,
  • focussing on local areas and communities to improve health and care in Dorset, and creating the environment in which people can live independently with flexible, person-centered care and support.

The first project covered by this procurement is the Purbeck Gateway Project, Dorset Council, alongside NHS Dorset CCG and NHS Dorset Healthcare are seeking a development partner to design, fund, build, and manage several significant developments in Wareham across several publicly-owned pieces of land. 

The Purbeck Gateway Project masterplan for the area includes the development of:

  • an integrated community health hub incorporating non-bedded clinical health services, GP practice, ambulance station and office accommodation,
  • a nursing care home,
  • extra care housing,
  • a range of affordable housing including supported living for working-age adults with disabilities, general needs housing, and housing for workers with key skills,
  • market housing,
  • community facilities including improved recreational and leisure facilities.

The estimated investment value for the Building Better Lives transformation programme is GBP 100 million (US$ 133.27 million). The publication of contract notice is expected to take place on April 10, 2020.
