The ongoing feasibility study for the Dhaka circular railway line project is on hold due to coronavirus. The contracting authority Bangladesh Railways was working with China Railway SIYUN Survey and Design Group Ltd for the feasibility study for the project. The majority of team members working on the feasibility study went back to Wuhan, China, and are unable to travel back due to coronavirus outbreak.
Till now 70% of the content on the feasibility study has been developed.
The project includes development of a circular railway line around Dhaka. The 81.9km circular train network will have elevated viaducts and double line standard gauge. The rail line will connect the population of peripheral district of Dhaka megacity.ie. Gazipur, Manikganj, Munshiganj, Narayanganj, Narshingdi, and Tangai. The route will have 20 stations in Tongi, Termuk, Purbachal road, Beraid, Kayetpara, Demra, Siddhirganj, Chowdhuri Bari, Chasara, Fatullah, Shyampur, Sadarghat, Babubazar, Nawabgonj, Shankar, Gabtoli, Dhaka Zoo, Birulia, Uttara and Dhour.
