The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) has partnered with concessionaire Next Wave Rhode Island Partners to redevelop a new downtown transit center in Providence, USA.

Next Wave Partners is a collaborative consortium consisting of several Rhode Island-based entities, including Gilbane Development Company, Marsella Development, and Gilbane Building Company, in addition to Plenary Americas, CUBE 3, and Jacobs. The forthcoming transit center will function as the central hub for RIPTA's bus operations, catering to a significant number of annual trips. This transit center will incorporate features such as a temperature-controlled waiting area, seating spaces for passengers, and designated areas for staff breaks. Additionally, it will offer amenities like multi-modal provisions for cyclists.

Moreover, the project envisions a mixed-use, transit-oriented development strategy that encompasses ground-level retail establishments and upper-level residential spaces, thereby generating economic growth prospects for the city. The collaborative efforts between RIPTA and Next Wave Partners will transpire in two phases to bring the new transit center to fruition. The initial phase involves site assessment, acquisition, public engagement, and advanced design for the project location. Upon the successful conclusion of the initial phase, the subsequent stage will focus on securing funding and actualizing the construction of the project.
