The Mayor of London’s development corporation for Old Oak and Park Royal (OPDC) has announced that Hemiko has been chosen as the development partner for its innovative new district heat network.
The heat network project will involve a collaboration between OPDC and Hemiko to design, develop, finance, and manage a new low-carbon system. This network will supply cost-effective, sustainable energy to more than 9,000 new homes and businesses in the Old Oak and Park Royal area, along with existing facilities such as Central Middlesex Hospital.
The initiative will harness waste heat from data center cooling systems. In its first phase, OPDC’s heat network aims to supply up to 95 GWh of heat annually—comparable to boiling approximately one billion kettles. The network will expand over five phases between 2028 and 2040, eventually covering the Old Oak and Park Royal regeneration area, London’s largest new development, which plans to deliver up to 25,000 homes over the next 20 years.
