Homes England and Network Rail have selected the partnership of McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate as the preferred developer for York Central in Yorkshire, UK.
The advancement of York Central involves a collaboration among Homes England, Network Rail, the City of York Council, and the National Railway Museum. Infrastructure initiatives totaling GBP 135 million (USD 171 million) are already in progress to facilitate the development of this significant regional project. These efforts encompass the creation of over 3 km of new roads, footpaths, and cycleways, along with the construction of two new bridges spanning the East Coast Main Line. York Central, spanning 45 acres, is poised to provide up to 2,500 residences, with 20% designated as affordable housing. Additionally, the project will generate approximately 1 million sq ft of commercial space for offices, retail, and leisure purposes. The development includes the establishment of a network of lively public squares connecting to adjacent neighborhoods in the city center. Furthermore, enhancements to York Railway Station and the expansion and improvement of the National Railway Museum are integral components of the initiative.
The selection of McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate as development partners marks a pivotal achievement in the realization of York Central. This transformative initiative involves revitalizing underutilized railway land in the heart of York city center, creating dynamic residential neighborhoods, cultural spaces, well-designed public areas, and a high-quality commercial district. The McLaren Property and Arlington Real Estate partnership brings substantial expertise in successfully executing major mixed-use regeneration projects and neighborhoods, including Durhamgate in Newton Aycliffe and Upper Brook Street in Manchester.
