French architect Oualalou + Choi has released renderings for its 115,000-seat stadium to be built roughly 24 miles north of Casablanca, Morocco.
The venue, designed by Paris-based firms Oualalou + Choi and Populous, is a contender to host the 2030 FIFA Men’s World Cup final, which Morocco is co-hosting with Spain and Portugal. A budget of US$520 million has been approved for the project.
The design is inspired by the traditional Moroccan social gathering known as a ‘moussem’, with the stadium structure set under a grand tented roof. Each end of the stadium holds 29,500 general admission spectators. Five levels of hospitality are on each main stand, with space for 12,000 VVIP, VIP, and premium guests, in addition to the Royal Box. It's covered by an aluminum lattice and translucent roof envelope. The stadium will sit amid an oasis of greenery, including botanical gardens. Oualalou + Choi, in association with Kansas-based architect Populous, won the design contract in March 2024. Other consultants in the project team include Maffeis Engineering of Italy and the UK’s Rider Levett Bucknall.
