Heatherwick Studio has revealed its design for the British School in Tokyo.
The school comprises of 15,000 sqm, with outdoor learning and recreational spaces spread across eight levels, interspersed with trees and nature. It is commissioned by Toranomon-Azabudai District Urban Redevelopment Association, of which Mori Building Co., Ltd. and Japan Post Holdings are leading participants. The school is a part of the recently revealed Azabudai Hills development, which has worked closely with the nearby communities during this amazing process of transformation.
The studio also designed the public realm and lower-level podium architecture including a generous 6,000 m² central landscaped square. With beautiful communal spaces surrounded by lush flora, this outstanding new public district has been created to foster and engage communities. It welcomes locals, businesses, schoolchildren, and tourists.
