Dubai Civil Aviation Authority has announced that work has begun on a new terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport in Dubai, UAE.
Planned to be constructed at an estimated cost of AED 128 billion (US$34.85 billion), the new terminal aims to bolster the airport's capacity to handle 260 million passengers and 12 million tonnes of cargo each year. It will feature five parallel runways with quadruple independent operation capabilities and west and east processing terminals.
Additionally, the terminal will include four satellite concourses with over 400 aircraft contact stands, an uninterrupted automated people mover system for passenger transportation, and an integrated landside transport hub for roads, Metro, and city air transport. The project's initial phase is anticipated to be completed within a decade, enabling it to accommodate 150 million passengers annually.
