The Board of Public Works was asked to postpone the action on the I-495 (Capital Beltway) and I-270 widening projects by sixty-nine members of the House of Delegates. The Board of Public Works is a three-member body consisting of Governor Larry Hogan, Comptroller Peter Franchot and Treasurer Nancy Kopp that votes on major state contracts of public works.
The reason for the delay is to provide adequate time to the board of public works to review the proposal and receive more information from the Maryland Department of Transportation. The I-495 (Capital Beltway) and I-270 widening projects will allow a private partner to design, build and maintain the road, and in return receive toll revenue.
Governor Larry Hogan agreed to remove the item from the agenda of the three-member Board of Public Works. The issue could be voted on at the next board meeting on December 18.
