Niti Aayog in India has extended the deadline for a public-private partnership model concession method to link new or existing private medical colleges with functional district hospitals to augment medical seats.
Earlier the deadline for the submission for the interest was January 10, 2020. Niti Aayog has published a new deadline for the concession to February 10, 2020. The date for the consultation is also postponed to February 25, 2020, instead of January 21, 2020.
The 'Model Concession Agreement for Setting Up Medical Colleges Under the Public-Private Partnership' is a guideline document developed based on international best practices and similar ongoing projects in the state of Gujarat and Kerala. India has a shortage of medical doctors, to fill the gap the government is planning to increase the educational institutes in India.
Under this model concession, a concessionaire will design, build, finance, operate and maintain the medical college and also upgrade, operate and maintain the associated district hospital with a minimum annual student intake of 150 MBBS seats.
