The Regional Energy Agency of Northwestern Croatia REGEA has launched a PPP concession to replace 40% of the public lighting network in Zagreb.

The project is part of the Zagreb smart city initiative and aims to save operational costs as well as reduce electricity consumption by 75% or 21 GWh per year. The system will also reduce CO2 emissions by 5000 tons annually. The PPP project has an estimated investment of EUR42 million (US$47.34 million).

Under the concession, the private partner will be responsible for the design, finance, construction, operation, and maintenance of the system. The scope also involves the provision of sensors to measure noise, air temperature, humidity, traffic flow, brightness, and electric vehicle charger monitoring. The concession period for the project is 17 years, including 2 years for design and execution.
