The Paraguay Ministry of Public Works and Communication (MOPC) has announced a general progress of 85% for the construction of Costanera Sur Avenue in Asunción, Paraguay.
The overall progress is equivalent to the completion of 5 km of asphalt, 2 km of sidewalks, and 2 km of lighting. The project encompasses the backfilling of 66 ha, where the initial 1,500 housing solutions will be constructed as part of the Bañado Tacumbú Rehabilitation and Housing Program. Additionally, the supplementary storm drainage work has been finished, involving excavation activities, the installation of over 4,000 linear meters of tubular and cellular sewer pipes, and the replacement of affected streets. Over 40 transversal drains have been installed to enhance rainwater collection, aiding in controlling rapid water flow during rainy days.
The Costanera Sur is integral to the comprehensive Costanera Avenue initiative, which aims to streamline vehicular access to the center of Asunción. The design incorporates expansive spaces for social recreation, including bike paths, broad sidewalks throughout, parking facilities, inclusive access points, parks, and an amphitheater. The main avenue, stretching approximately 8.1 km at a non-flood level, traverses the Bañado Sur from Avda. Colón to Cerro Lambaré.
