Grupo Costanera S.pA. has submitted the most attractive economic bid for the Second Concession for the Temuco-Río Bueno Section of Route 5, which includes an investment of US$836 million.

The project includes the modernization of Route 5 between the regions of La Araucanía and Los Ríos, with particular emphasis on the construction of the bypass to the city of Los Lagos. The Second Route 5 Concession, Temuco-Río Bueno Section, is 181 km long and crosses the municipalities of Gorbea and Loncoche in Cautín province; Lanco, Mariquina, Máfil, Los Lagos, and Paillaco in Valdivia province; and La Unión and Río Bueno in Ranco province. The new concession also includes the construction of 37 new pedestrian walkways with universal access, four new bridges (Viaducto Los Lagos Oriente and Poniente, Puente Huiña Oriente and Poniente, Puente Curaco Poniente, and Puente Negro associated with a service road), as well as sales areas, general service areas for the general public, and others.

The project, which was put out to tender on December 28, 2023, received bids from Intervial Chile SA and Grupo Costanera S.pA on January 24. The process will continue with the project being awarded during Q3 of 2025. According to the schedule, the new works, including the bypass to the city of Los Lagos, are expected to begin in 2027 and enter into operation in 2033.
