Ministry of Public Works and Transportation in Costa Rica has announced plans for the extension of San José - Caldera Highway (Globalvía Ruta 27) concession for another 15 years. The earlier concession included design, planning, financing, construction, rehabilitation, expansion, repair, maintenance and conservation of the 76.8 km long highway connecting San Jose and Puerto Caldera with the concession period of 15 years. The operation for the highway began in 2018 and the current concession ends in 2033.

A concessionaire company Globalvía is currently responsible for the highway. The authority wishes to extend the link for another 15 years, which will expire in 2048. According to the extension plan, the 15-kilometer section between the National Gymnasium and Ciudad Colo will be redeveloped first, after which sections from Ciudad Colón to Orotina and from Orotina to Caldera will be constructed. The authority is estimating investments of US$ 600 million for the extension works.
