The Macquarie Point Development Corporation (MPDC) has disclosed the upkeep and maintenance estimates for the proposed Macquarie Point stadium in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
The lifecycle cost of the project is estimated at AU$ 171 million over 30 years, with AU$ 62 million allocated for the maintenance and upkeep of the translucent roof, which is expected to cost AU$ 207 million to construct. Additional lifecycle costs include AU$ 21 million for facade maintenance, AU$ 19 million for market loading of non-local trades, and AU$ 10 million for electrical and IT expenses. These costs are separate from the current construction estimate of AU$ 775 million. The report by quantity surveyor WT Partnership projects that a 12-month delay in construction would raise the stadium's cost by AU$ 82 million, bringing the total to AU$ 857 million. It notes that the MPDC will allocate at least AU$ 65 million to consultant fees for architects, surveyors, and construction advisers, which is factored into the overall stadium budget.
The estimates also list several unaccounted items, such as pitch equipment, financing and legal costs, control room installations, and offices for Stadiums Tasmania. Additionally, the AFL’s agreement with the Tasmanian government mandates a fixed ethylene tetrafluoroethylene roof and places responsibility for cost overruns on the government. The stadium would be owned and operated by public entity Stadiums Tasmania.
