The National Transport Authority announced that the light rail system has been delayed due to additional work required on the city center section of the route in Cork, Ireland.
The planned 17-km east-west route is intended to encompass 25 stops, including locations such as Ballincollig, Curraheen, Munster Technological University, Cork University Hospital, University College Cork, Cork city center, Kent Station/Cork North Docklands, Cork South Docklands, Mahon. The planning and design efforts for the Cork light rail system, which is a significant component of the Cork Metropolitan Area Transport Strategy until 2040, have incurred costs exceeding EUR1.8 million (US$1,974 million) thus far. The estimated cost for the entire light rail system is around EUR1 billion (US$1,096 million).
